DharmaBums, Inc.

I put on my new flannel shirt and new socks and underwear and my jeans and packed the rucksack tight and slung it on and went to San Francisco that night with it on my back. I walked down Mission Street singing merrily. I went to Skid Row Third Street to enjoy my favorite fresh doughnuts and coffee and the bums in there were all fascinated and wanted to know if I was going uranium hunting. I didn't want to start making speeches about what I was going to hunt for was infinitely more valuable to mankind in the long run than ore…

If not, oh well. The web is a big place. If any beat writer management is looking for me 'cause they are upset, I fled to Mexico. Thank goodness for NAFTA.

What the heck is a Dharma Bum? Ah, yes, question number one! DharmaBums, Inc. is paying homage to a novel by Jack Kerouac that I read while I was traveling across the country during the summer of 1995. Kerouac and many other Beat Generation writers found themselves pulled towards many forms of Eastern Philosophy, including Taoism and Zen Buddhism. True, they may not have been very devout practitioners, but they experienced spirituality in many forms.

So, why title this website DharmaBums, Inc.? Ok, so, maybe I'm not a beat writer, nor am I a Buddhist Monk, however, I do find myself being pulled to many of the same beliefs and experiences that they did and thought that it would be a great title for what this website has to offer.

Which is? Links to stories, poetry and photos by my friends and family, pop culture, indie culture, useful links, not so useful links and plenty of plain randomness.

And what do I do? Jeez, just surf the site and go with the flow!
